The Law Society of New South Wales has administered professional standards schemes for its members in private practice since 1996.
The schemes promote professional standards and consumer protection, and allow members who meet the scheme’s requirements to limit their civil liability. A scheme is a legal instrument made under the Professional Standards Act 1994 (NSW) and approved by the Professional Standards Councils. It binds the occupational association to monitor, enforce and improve the professional standards of its members, and to protect consumers of professional services.
