Business & Commercial Law

Practical legal help for small and medium businesses: contracts, disputes, debts and leases, from a principal with a background in commerce, accountancy and banking.

Before he practised law, Danny Lagopodis worked for the Australian Taxation Office and as a financial credit analyst with a large corporate bank. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Master of Accountancy. That background helps when a dispute turns on the accounts, a loan or the structure of a business.

What we help with

Commercial contracts

Drafting, reviewing and negotiating supply, service and other commercial agreements, so your obligations and protections are clear.

Buying or selling a business

Sale agreements, due diligence, transfer of leases and assets, and settlement.

Commercial leases

Advice for landlords and tenants on retail and commercial leases, renewals, assignments and disputes.

Debt recovery

Letters of demand, court proceedings and enforcement of judgments for unpaid accounts and loans.

Commercial disputes

Contract disputes, partnership and shareholder disagreements, and claims between businesses.

Civil litigation

Proceedings in the Local, District and Supreme Courts, including small claims.

Recovering a debt in NSW

Civil claims for money are heard in the court with the right monetary limit. In the Local Court, the Small Claims Division deals with claims up to $20,000 and the General Division with claims up to $100,000. Larger claims go to the District Court or the Supreme Court. Before starting proceedings, a clear letter of demand often resolves the matter. If it does not, we can issue proceedings, obtain judgment and take steps to enforce it.

Corporate crime and regulatory matters

Where a business problem becomes a criminal investigation, such as an allegation of fraud, tax offences or misuse of company funds, we can act in the criminal proceedings as well. See criminal law.
